How to Apply

Are you working to help make Northland a more prosperous, vibrant, and equitable region?
Northland Community Foundation holds one grant round each year, offering modest grants to charitable projects that reflect the wishes of our donors.

The 2025 funding round is now open until 8 June 2025.

Our annual funding round includes applications for:

  • Tindall Foundation funding for Te Tai Tokerau Northland – prioritising initiatives that support equity for tamariki/children, rangatahi/young people and their whānau/families
  • Northland Fund – Supporting the greatest needs in Te Tai Tokerau Northland  
  • Northern Wairoa Fund – Supporting the Northern Wairoa community  
  • Community Self-Help Fund – Supporting grassroots community development initiatives across the region. 

Each organisation may submit only one grant application per round. All applications are automatically considered for all funding streams.

Funds Available

The Tindall Foundation funding for Te Tai Tokerau Northland

Northland Community Foundation is proud to serve as the local funding manager for The Tindall Foundation (TTF), a philanthropic family foundation dedicated to supporting communities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
TTF funding is included in our annual grants round and is allocated to projects and initiatives that align with The Tindall Foundation’s Family/Whānau Focus Area within Te Tai Tokerau Northland.

Each year, approximately $90,000 is available to distribute in Te Tai Tokerau Northland. Organisations can apply for grants of up to $15,000.

Northland Fund, Northern Wairoa Fund and Community Self-Help Fund

Approximately $6000 of funding is available across these funds, thanks to the generosity of individual donors who have established funds with the Northland Community Foundation. Current grant amounts range from $250-$1000.

Funding Priority Areas:

  • The well-being of seniors
  • Environment
  • The Arts
  • Community Self-help – Supporting grassroots community development initiatives across the region. 
  • Northern Wairoa – Supporting groups in the Northern Wairoa community  

Who can apply?

Charities and community groups making a meaningful impact in the local community.

Applicants must:

  • Be based in Te Tai Tokerau, or
  • Deliver a substantial portion of their services in the region.
