NCF’s invested and managed funds increased during 2020 to $2 million, and we have had our largest annual distribution of grants and donations to the community since inception. Considering the difficult financial year for the economy Craigs Investment Partners (Craigs) portfolio still returned a positive year at 5.86% (before fees and taxes).
In total NCF now has 23 managed funds and 24 promised funds established. Northlanders continued to show their support by donating to NCF during 2020. Donations varied from small to large, one-off to ongoing, all providing support for our community forever!
An annual highlight for NCF are the distributions of the Northland Grassroots Fund. In 2020 NCF gave $88,540 to 11 charitable organisations. This was mainly due to the Tindall Foundation regional funding, but also due to generous Northland donors. A total of 40 applications were received in 2020 requesting a total of $451,500. Some of the organisations supported included: Bream Bay Community Support Trust, Road Safety Education Ltd, Rainbow Youth Inc, Whangarei Budgeting Service and Toi Ngāpuhi.
We now have $2 million funds invested and under management, $18.4 million promised gifts through wills, 1.5 full-time employees, and have gifted back to the community $5 million since its establishment in
2008!
When NCF reaches $20 million invested funds it can become self- sufficient, with 1% going towards our operations annually. NCF have been lucky to have the support of Northland DHB, Tindall Foundation, Oxford Sports Trust, Foundation North, Four Winds Foundation, Craigs Investment Partners, Toyota Northland, Pub Charities, Russell Turner Chartered Accountants, Law North Lawyers, WRMK Lawyers, Wills Westenra, Henderson Reeves, Community Foundations NZ and Future 50 Supporters supporting our operations.
Without these supporters NCF would not be able to operate for Tai Tokerau. We would also like to acknowledge the hard work of our Trustees who volunteer many hours to support the development of NCF. Our success as a Foundation would also not occur without our wonderful donors who have helped establish the special interest funds and donated to our Northland Funds.
The Foundation continues to strive for $20 million in managed funds and $50 million bequeathed funds for the Northland community!
