Grassroots Funding Round now closed for 2016

Groups as diverse as those working with new migrants, those supporting Kaumatua and tamariki, to those working with small children and others with volunteer support are among the many who haver applied in 2016 for Grassroots Funding from Northland Foundation.

Northland Foundation is a Regional Funding Manager for The Tindall Foundation and each year is responsible for allocating around $80,000 of “Grassroots” funding to organisations and groups around Northland. Groups working in the following areas are eligible to apply: Early Childhood, Budgeting, Maori, Numeracy and Literacy, Migrant Refugee and Cross-Cultural, Community Services and Development.

The fund is aimed at those working very closely to the grassroots of their community, mainly volunteer based and is a hand-up rather than a hand-out programme.

In previous years applications received have always been far higher than the value of the Fund. In 2015, thirty-one applications were received and thirteen organisations received funding.

Ros Martin, Manager of the Northland Foundation says the process is always humbling in that the applications show the outstanding work being done locally by energetic, passionate and caring people all over Northland wanting to make their communities stronger, more resilient and more capable.

She says the Grants Panel members spend considerable amounts of time reviewing the applications in order to ensure that the funding is distributed appropriately.

The six panel members come from all around Northland and bring their skills and local knowledge to the process, making it robust and considered.

Panellists are: Margareth Broodkoorn (Chair), Rosemary Archibald, Lorene Royal, Mahmood Khan, Debbie Evans, Jo Roberts.

The panel meets in mid-August with allocations notified in late August or early September.
